Colour Outside the Headlines: Fall Turns to Frost

As hearty as we Canadians are, winter always seems to sneak up on us just as we’re getting used to shuffling through a carpet of red and yellow leaves. Much of the country has experienced its first snowfall already, and that blanket of crisp white is taking over.

Much like the temperature outside, the smallest shift in colour temperature can make a big difference in how your room looks and feels.

We often refer to colours as being “warm” or “cool.” Warm colours – such as fall colours – give a different feeling than cool colours like purple and teal.

What about white? It’s the go-to wall colour for many people, but finding the right shade of white requires the same considerations as any other colour.

The differences are subtle, but a warmer, creamier white can provide a softer feel, while a slight blue tone can add a brightness and more modern appearance to a room.

As always, consider your room’s lighting, and how it works with your décor and style of home, to find a shade of white that will suit you for years to come.

As for that covering of white outside? We’ll just have to wait for its natural lighting source – the sun – to melt it away come spring.

We may not know how cold it will get this winter, but we do know colour!
